Sri Lankan Researcher Windhula Gammanpila Wins Best Presentation Award at World Sustainability Forum

Sri Lankan researcher Windhula Gammanpila, from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and an Attorney-at-Law, has won the Best Presentation Award at the 12th World Sustainability Forum (WSF-12) held at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Gammanpila presented research based on the paper “Equitable Electricity Transitions in Sri Lanka: A Sustainability Index Incorporating Battery Energy Storage.”

The World Sustainability Forum brings together researchers from around the world to discuss sustainability-related research and solutions.

As part of the research, Gammanpila developed the Electricity Sector Sustainability Index, a scoring tool designed to assess the sustainability of Sri Lanka’s electricity system through a single framework.

The index considers factors including cost, environmental impact, social equity and technological development, providing a framework to evaluate the country’s transition towards a more sustainable electricity sector.

The award highlights the contribution of Sri Lankan research to international discussions on sustainable energy and equitable electricity transitions.
