“Vote Against the 22nd Amendment or Stay Away from the Vote,” Dilith Tells NPP MPs

Sarvajana Balaya leader and Parliamentarian Dilith Jayaweera has sent individual letters to all National People’s Power (NPP) MPs, urging them to act according to their conscience during tomorrow’s vote on the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution.

In his letters, Jayaweera has urged the MPs to vote against the proposed constitutional amendment, which he says would place a “black mark” on Sri Lanka’s democracy.

He further requested that if they are unable to vote against the amendment due to pressure or other circumstances, they should refrain from participating in the vote and thereby contribute to preventing the Bill from being passed with a two-thirds majority.

The vote on the proposed 22nd Amendment is scheduled to take place in Parliament on September 25, following the two-day debate that began on September 24.
