Vijay’s Dior Sunglasses Gift Leaves Elderly Fan Overjoyed in Salem
· India
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor-turned-politician Vijay delighted an elderly woman in Salem with an unexpected gesture during an unscheduled roadside stop on Tuesday.
Vijay was travelling in Salem to inspect the Mettur hydroelectric power station and open the sluice gates of the Stanley Reservoir to support agricultural activities. On his way to the airport, he made a brief detour to a roadside farmhouse, where a group of elderly women were working in a field.
After stepping out of his convoy, Vijay greeted the women and spoke with them. One of them, identified as Chellam, approached him after recognising the popular actor.
Vijay held her hand as they walked around the garden together, asking her name and checking on her well-being. In a touching moment, he removed his Christian Dior sunglasses and placed them on Chellam’s face.
The elderly woman later described the moment as feeling like she had won “a crore of rupees,” according to reports.
Chellam also recalled that Vijay asked whether she had eaten. She told him she had been waiting to see him before having her meal. Vijay responded that he had already eaten and encouraged her to eat as well.
During his approximately 15-minute visit, Vijay also met local farmer Palanisamy and others at a cattle shed. He distributed dhotis and sarees to the host family and spoke with them about farming and their daily lives.
Chellam, who expressed deep affection for Vijay, said she was so happy to meet him that she even told him she would stand up for him if anyone tried to harm him.
The emotional encounter was so memorable that Chellam forgot to raise some of her own difficulties, including losing her ration card and being unable to continue physical labour because of her age.
For Chellam, however, the surprise meeting—and a pair of Vijay’s sunglasses—turned an ordinary day into a moment she is unlikely to forget.
