Victoria Holds First Premier’s Diwali Reception
· Australia
Speaking at the annual Diwali reception in Melbourne, Premier Carroll said “no one has the right to call Indian Australians outsiders.”
His remarks highlighted the contribution of Indian Australians to the state and the importance of respect and inclusion within Victoria’s multicultural community.
The Premier’s comments came as political and community leaders gathered for the annual Diwali celebration, which brought together representatives from government, community organisations and different faith backgrounds.
The event also featured the traditional lighting of a diya, cultural performances and community celebrations.
Premier Carroll used the occasion to highlight the role of multicultural communities in Victoria and the importance of ensuring people feel a sense of belonging.
The message comes as Victoria continues to promote itself as a multicultural and multifaith state, with communities from many different backgrounds contributing to the state’s social, cultural and economic life.
