Veteran Music Producer and Singlanka Founder Ananda Ganegoda Passes Away

Ananda Ganegoda, founder and Chairman of Singlanka and a renowned name in Sri Lanka’s music industry, has passed away.

A prominent businessman, Mr. Ganegoda pioneered a new era in Sri Lanka’s garment industry through Japanese collaboration alongside his elder brother, Wimalajeeva Ganegoda. He served as Managing Director of Mayura Garments (Japan-Lanka).

He later established the TransLanka business group and served as Chairman of a network of businesses including Dot Toffees, Nips Biscuits, Transprint and TransLanka Apparel.

Having maintained close relationships with Sri Lankan musicians, Ganegoda established the Singlanka cassette production company with the aim of supporting the creative independence and quality of their musical productions while contributing to their economic well-being.

Singlanka subsequently became recognised as a music production company that respected the musical tastes of the public and contributed to the development of quality Sinhala music. Ganegoda entered Sri Lanka's cassette industry in 1980, releasing recordings featuring leading artists including Nanda Malini and W. D. Amaradeva. More than 2,000 songs were released under his direction over the course of his career.

His remains are currently at his residence at No. 179/2, Templers Road, Mount Lavinia. Details regarding the funeral arrangements will be announced later.
