US: Shooting at Seattle festival leaves at least 4 injured, including child

At least four people, including a child, were wounded in a shooting Sunday night at an events complex near Seattle’s Space Needle, a hospital spokesperson said.

Authorities did not immediately release further details. Police were investigating the incident and urged people to avoid the area.

Harborview Medical Center spokeswoman Susan Gregg said the hospital treated four victims — a toddler, a 23-year-old man and two adult women.

The shooting occurred as the Seattle Center hosted the Bite of Seattle food festival over the weekend.

Festival attendee Estan Wakonabo said he and his girlfriend were waiting in line for a photo booth when he was pushed from behind. He then saw a crowd rushing away from the area.

“People were hiding, were pushing, people were falling on the ground, baby strollers were falling,” Wakonabo said, adding that he then heard gunshots.

After helping his girlfriend reach safety, Wakonabo returned to the scene to take photos and saw multiple victims lying on the ground.

The annual festival began in 1982 and attracts about 350,000 visitors over three days of food, drinks and community celebrations, according to its website.
