Two women killed after being struck by train in Kalutara

A woman and her niece were tragically killed after being struck by a train near the Kalutara Railway Station at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, police said. The sudden collision resulted in immediate fatalities due to the impact.
Initial investigations revealed that the victims were crossing or walking near the railway line in low-visibility early morning conditions before being hit by an incoming train. Police officers dispatched to the location secured the scene and initiated inquiries with railway authorities.
The bodies of both deceased women have been transferred to the mortuary of the Kalutara General Hospital pending post-mortem examinations. Kalutara Police are continuing further investigations into the incident.
