Train services between Colombo and Peradeniya to resume on October 2

Regular train services on Sri Lanka's Upcountry Railway Line between Colombo Fort and Peradeniya are set to resume operations on October 2, according to railway authorities [1.1]. The critical transport link had been suspended following severe adverse weather conditions that caused major disruptions to the network.

The prolonged closure was necessitated by substantial structural damage inflicted on multiple stretches of the railway line by Cyclone Ditwah. Landslides, falling debris, and destabilized embankments along the hill country corridor required comprehensive safety evaluations and extensive civil engineering interventions before tracks could be declared secure for passenger traffic.

Maintenance teams and engineering personnel from Sri Lanka Railways have worked intensively to clear obstructions, reinforce compromised tracks, and restore signal systems. With the completion of track tests and rehabilitation works, authorities confirmed that passenger and commuter trains will recommence their regular schedules starting Thursday.
