Timber planks spear through truck cabin at busy Adelaide intersection sparking police investigation

A truck driver has narrowly avoided serious injury after a load of timber speared through the cabin of his vehicle and scattered across a busy Adelaide intersection. Emergency services were called to the corner of Grand Junction and Churchill roads at Dry Creek about 8.30am on Thursday after large timber planks became dislodged from a truck.

Several planks smashed through the rear window of the cab, pierced the truck’s cabin and exited through the front windscreen before sliding into the intersection below. Despite the dramatic incident, no serious injuries were reported.

The fallen timber caused major traffic delays while emergency crews secured the scene and cleared the roadway. An inspection of the truck later identified alleged issues with the way the load had been restrained. A 57-year-old Craigmore man will be summonsed to court after being reported for an alleged severe-risk load restraint breach under heavy vehicle laws. Investigators also found defective suspension components on the truck, resulting in a defect notice being issued. Investigations are continuing.
