Three arrested over plot to kill informant behind seizure of ICE worth Rs. 5 billion

The Police Special Task Force and criminal investigation units apprehended three individuals suspected of conspiring to abduct and murder a key informant. The targeted individual had provided critical intelligence leading to the interception of 325 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine ('Ice') worth more than Rs. 5 billion off the coast of Kirinda last year.

According to police sources, an organized transnational drug trafficking network had placed a contract on the informant's life in retaliation for the massive financial loss caused by the raid. The criminal ring planned to disguise themselves as law enforcement officers to carry out the operation.

During the raid that led to the arrests, police uncovered a disguised vehicle painted and customized to resemble an official police jeep, along with cloned license plates and tactical gear. The suspects planned to use the vehicle to transport the victim without raising suspicion at security checkpoints.

The suspects are being held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and narcotics control provisions as officers trace the financial network supporting the plot. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting vital whistleblowers and informants aiding counter-narcotics efforts.
