Terminal 1 Expansion Begins at Bandaranaike International Airport

The expansion of Terminal 1 at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has commenced, with the project set to increase the airport’s annual passenger handling capacity to 10 million.

Scheduled to be completed within one year, the expansion will add 36 new check-in counters and introduce a modernised lobby area.

The project is aimed at strengthening passenger handling capacity at Sri Lanka’s main international gateway and supporting the country’s growing air travel and tourism demand.

The upgraded terminal facilities are expected to improve passenger processing and provide a more modern airport experience as international traffic continues to expand.
