· Sri Lanka
From Sporting Star’s seven-decade journey to the growth of Greatwall Restaurants, Life Serv and Sumathi IT, the group marks generations of enterprise and achievement.
Sumathi Holdings marked a significant milestone in its corporate journey on October 9, 2026, bringing together its business community at ITC Ratnadipa, Colombo, to celebrate decades of growth, resilience and achievement across four established businesses.

The celebration recognised 70 years of Sporting Star, 35 years of Greatwall Restaurants, 25 years of Life Serv and 25 years of Sumathi IT. Together, these anniversaries reflect the evolution of businesses that have developed across generations, adapting to changing markets while maintaining their place within the group’s wider story.
Under the theme of 70 years of legacy, a lifetime of memories and a future of possibilities, the occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the people, partnerships and leadership that have shaped Sumathi Holdings over the years.
Four Milestones, One Enduring Legacy
Sporting Star’s 70-year milestone represents the longest chapter in this collective journey. Its history reflects decades of business development and the changing expectations of customers and markets over time.
Greatwall Restaurants, celebrating 35 years, marks another important stage in the group’s growth. Over more than three decades, the restaurant business has formed part of the group’s broader commercial presence, reflecting the importance of consistency, service and customer relationships in a competitive industry.
The 25th anniversaries of Life Serv and Sumathi IT highlight the development of businesses that have contributed to the group’s more recent evolution. Their milestones demonstrate the value of sustained commitment and the ability to build operations over time.
While each business has its own history and identity, their anniversaries share common themes of perseverance, enterprise and long-term development.
Leadership and the People Behind the Journey
The celebration also recognised the leadership of Sumathi Holdings Chairman Mr. Jagath Sumathipala, Executive Director Mr. Chadu Sumathipala and Director of Business Strategies and Development Mr. Chathula Sumathipala.

Their roles in guiding the group’s businesses formed part of the evening’s reflection on its achievements and future direction.
Beyond leadership, the milestones acknowledged the contribution of employees, business partners and other stakeholders whose dedication has helped sustain the group’s operations. The longevity of an enterprise is built not only through strategic decisions but also through the commitment of the people who support its daily activities and long-term ambitions.
The occasion highlighted the importance of enduring relationships, shared objectives and the collective effort required to navigate challenges and pursue new opportunities.
Building on the Past to Shape the Future
For Sumathi Holdings, the anniversaries represent more than the completion of significant periods in business. They provide an opportunity to consider how established foundations can support the next phase of growth.
As industries continue to change through evolving consumer expectations, technology and competitive pressures, businesses must balance the value of experience with a willingness to adapt. The group’s four milestones offer a reminder that sustained growth depends on both preserving institutional knowledge and remaining open to new possibilities.
The October 9 gathering at ITC Ratnadipa brought these themes together in a celebration of history, achievement and ambition.
With 70 years of Sporting Star, 35 years of Greatwall Restaurants and 25 years each of Life Serv and Sumathi IT, Sumathi Holdings has marked a defining chapter in its corporate story while looking towards the opportunities ahead.

Its message is one of continuity: honouring the legacy built over decades while laying the groundwork for future generations of enterprise.
