Strengthening National Reconciliation Is a Timely Need, Says Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said that all Sri Lankans should come together to build the country as one people, without being divided along ethnic, religious, provincial, district, village or urban lines. He stressed that strengthening national reconciliation is essential and that everyone should work together with humanity as the foundation, rather than being divided by ethnicity or religion.

He made these remarks during a discussion held today at the Office of the Opposition Leader in Parliament with opposition Members of Parliament representing the Northern, Eastern and plantation regions, as well as other parts of the country.

The Opposition Leader also pointed out that ensuring the rights, dignity and equal opportunities of all Sri Lankans, without discrimination based on ethnicity, religion or ethnic background, should be a fundamental basis of national reconciliation.

The social and economic challenges faced by people in all parts of the country, including the Northern and Eastern provinces, were also discussed. Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa also expressed his views on the case involving Sri Lankan national Sivarasa Anojan, who has reportedly been sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia. He stressed the importance of taking the necessary steps and making appropriate interventions in the matter as Sri Lankans.
