From Food Truck to Homegrown Success: Street Burger Celebrates 10 Years

Sri Lankan homegrown casual-dining brand Street Burger is celebrating its 10th anniversary this October, marking a decade of growth from a food truck on Marine Drive to a network of eight standalone restaurants.

Founded in 2016, Street Burger entered Colombo’s food scene with a vision to offer an elevated yet accessible burger experience, combining fresh ingredients, quality and flavours suited to local tastes.

The brand was established by co-founders Tharique Shibly and Masoon Samoon, who drew on their experience in the overseas food and beverage industry to identify an opportunity in Sri Lanka’s casual-dining market.

Rather than beginning with a conventional restaurant, the founders launched a food truck, allowing them to engage directly with customers and test their concept. Growing customer interest and queues at the truck soon created the opportunity to expand the business.

As Street Burger developed, Zimran Zaffarulla and Shazad Fauz joined the company, bringing additional experience and perspectives to its growth. The business has since expanded to eight standalone restaurants and introduced Adikted, an additional food venture.

Despite its expansion, Street Burger continues to focus on fresh local produce, quality ingredients and consistency, while maintaining its distinctive Sri Lankan approach to the gourmet burger.

Reflecting on the milestone, co-founders Tharique Shibly and Masoon said the business had grown far beyond its original vision, crediting its customers, team members and supporters for contributing to the journey.

They expressed gratitude to everyone who had believed in the brand and supported its development over the past decade.

Street Burger’s 10-year journey highlights the role of local entrepreneurship in shaping Sri Lanka’s evolving food and beverage industry. From its beginnings on Marine Drive to its growing restaurant network, the brand has built its identity around a simple idea: delivering quality casual dining with a distinctly Sri Lankan character.
