St. Peter’s College OBU Announces Centenary Celebrations Marking 100 Years of Service to the Peterite Community

The St. Peter’s College Old Boys’ Union (OBU) today announced a year-long programme of centenary celebrations to mark 100 years since the establishment of the association in 1927.

The announcement was made at a media briefing held at the Patrons’ Auditorium of the St. Peter’s College Old Boys’ Union Secretariat, attended by members of the media and the Centenary Organising Committee of the Old Boys’ Union.

The centenary celebrations will be conducted under the theme “Honouring the Past. Strengthening the Present. Inspiring the Peterite of Tomorrow.” Each element of the theme represents one of the three pillars upon which the year’s celebrations and initiatives have been built.

Honouring the Past:
Paying tribute to the generations of old boys who have sustained the association for a century, as well as to the enduring bond established at St. Peter’s College that connects Peterites across Sri Lanka and around the world.

Strengthening the Present:
Investing in the College and its community today through teacher development, improvements to the infrastructure of the Old Boys’ Union Secretariat, and programmes supporting current students.

Inspiring the Peterite of Tomorrow:
Equipping the next generation of students with the skills, opportunities and support they need to thrive beyond school, ensuring that the legacy of the association continues for the next hundred years.

“Reaching a century is a milestone achieved by very few alumni associations anywhere, and it belongs to every generation of old boys who dedicated their time and loyalty to helping this association grow from strength to strength,” said Dr. Nirmal de Silva, President of the St. Peter’s College Old Boys’ Union.

“Honouring that past means strengthening what we do today and inspiring the Peterites of tomorrow. As we mark our centenary, we want every Peterite, wherever they may be in the world, to feel the same sense of belonging that has kept our family together since 1927,” he added.

Centenary Celebrations – 18 October 2026

The centrepiece of the celebrations will be the Centenary Launch Event, scheduled to be held on Sunday, 18 October 2026.

All old boys will be invited to the College for a day of celebrations, with the programme including:

  • 8:00 a.m. – Holy Mass
