Sri Lankan Woman Represents Nation in International Mars Analog Mission in Brazil

Sri Lanka has reached another milestone in the field of space exploration, with Sandali Kumarasinghe representing the country at Habitat Marte in Brazil as part of an international crew participating in a Mars analog mission.

The achievement was celebrated by Women in Aviation International – Sri Lanka Chapter, which praised Sandali for carrying the Sri Lankan flag onto the global stage while inspiring the next generation of women pursuing careers in aviation, aerospace and STEM.

Habitat Marte, located in northeastern Brazil, is one of the world's leading Mars analog research stations. It provides a highly realistic environment where participants simulate living and working on Mars by carrying out scientific research, engineering tasks and mission operations while collaborating with experts from different countries. The station is designed to help researchers and astronauts prepare for the challenges of future human missions to the Red Planet.

Sandali served as the mission commander during the international Astraqua 240 mission, working alongside crew members from Peru and Brazil. The mission focused on scientific research, operational teamwork and human performance in isolated environments that replicate conditions expected during future Mars expeditions.

Women in Aviation International – Sri Lanka Chapter described Sandali's accomplishment as a proud moment for the nation and an inspiration for young Sri Lankans, particularly women aspiring to build careers in aviation, aerospace, science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
