Sri Lankan Engineer Builds Full-Scale Airbus A320 Simulator From Scratch

A Sri Lankan engineer is showcasing the country’s growing aviation and engineering talent by developing a full-scale Airbus A320 flight simulator from scratch.

Sameera, known as “Sim Sam,” has been working on the ambitious project since 2016, combining his academic knowledge with hands-on engineering, design and manufacturing skills.

Unlike many simulator projects that depend heavily on commercially available cockpit components, Sameera has personally designed, engineered and 3D-modelled much of the simulator himself. The project includes custom cockpit panels, flight controls, structural elements and numerous other components.

In an added display of ingenuity, he even built his own 3D printers to manufacture many of the parts needed for the simulator.

With a BSc in Aerospace Technology, Sameera has transformed his passion for aviation into a long-term engineering project, demonstrating the possibilities of combining technical knowledge with creativity and determination.

His work is also continuing beyond the A320 simulator. He is now developing helicopter simulators and several other simulator projects, further expanding his work in aviation technology.

The project is a remarkable example of Sri Lankan innovation and engineering capability, showing how passion, knowledge and perseverance can turn an ambitious idea into reality.
