Sri Lankan Dancers Shine on Global Stage with Historic Success at Blackpool

Sri Lankan dancers Tarja de Silva and Gihan Umesh Madanpitiya have brought international recognition to Sri Lanka after delivering exceptional performances at two of the world's most prestigious Latin dance competitions in Blackpool, United Kingdom.
The talented duo first competed at the renowned Open Worlds Latin Dance Championship, held at the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom. Demonstrating remarkable skill, precision, and artistry, they secured second place in all five Pro-Am Latin dance categories – Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive.
Building on that impressive achievement, Tarja and Gihan went on to compete at the 100th Anniversary Blackpool Dance Festival, staged at the historic Winter Gardens Blackpool. Widely regarded as the most prestigious ballroom and Latin dance competition in the world, the festival attracted elite dancers from more than 50 countries.
The Sri Lankan pair delivered a series of outstanding performances throughout the competition, ultimately claiming championship titles in all five Pro-Am Latin dance categories. They emerged victorious in Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive, achieving a remarkable clean sweep at one of the sport’s most celebrated events.
Their success represents a significant milestone for Sri Lankan dance, highlighting the country's growing presence on the international competitive dance scene.
