Sri Lanka Showcased as Premier Wildlife Destination at UK’s Global Bird Fair 2026

Sri Lanka has strengthened its position as a leading global wildlife tourism hotspot after being prominently featured at the Global Bird Fair 2026 held in Rutland, United Kingdom from 10–12 July.

Organised participation by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau highlighted the island’s extraordinary biodiversity and diverse nature experiences to an international audience at the UK’s foremost exhibition dedicated to wildlife and nature travel.

The Sri Lanka pavilion drew significant attention from specialist tour operators, travel agents, conservation organisations, wildlife experts, and global media, including the BBC. Visitors were introduced to the country’s world-renowned wildlife offerings, such as leopard and elephant safaris, blue whale and dolphin watching, endemic bird species, nocturnal wildlife encounters, and its extensive network of national parks and protected forests.

Discussions at the event underscored Sri Lanka’s unique advantage as a compact destination capable of offering a wide range of wildlife experiences throughout the year—making it an attractive choice for international nature and wildlife enthusiasts.

As part of the programme, SLTPB conducted a destination presentation titled “Sri Lanka – A Journey Through the Lenses,” featuring insights into wildlife seasons, travel routes, photography and filming opportunities, and sustainable tourism practices. The session was led by wildlife tourism experts Chandika Jayarathne and Mukesh Hydramani.

The Sri Lankan delegation was headed by Deputy Director (Marketing) Sarangi Thilakasena and included Destination Management Companies specialising in wildlife tourism. The pavilion was officially inaugurated by Nimal Senadheera, alongside Premathilake Jayakody and other dignitaries.

Sri Lanka’s successful participation at the Global Bird Fair 2026 has enhanced its global visibility and reinforced its reputation as a high-value, sustainable, and year-round wildlife tourism destination.
