Sri Lanka Navy Athletes Win Five Bronze Medals at South Asian Karate Championship 2026

Sri Lanka Navy athletes representing the national team delivered an impressive performance at the 10th Junior and Senior South Asian Karate Championship 2026, securing a total of five bronze medals in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The championship, organised by the Bangladesh Karate Federation, was held on 18 and 19 July at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium, bringing together top karate athletes from seven South Asian nations.

Competing as part of the Sri Lankan contingent, three Navy athletes showcased their skill and determination on the international stage, contributing all five bronze medals to the country’s tally.

Leading Seaman ADNS Ariyarathna earned a bronze medal in the men’s individual kumite under-50kg category with a strong performance against regional competitors. Woman Able Seaman PLM Nethmini stood out with an impressive double podium finish, claiming bronze in both the women’s individual kumite under-61kg event and the women’s team kumite competition.

Similarly, Woman Leading Seaman KAC Dulanjali secured two bronze medals, excelling in the women’s individual kumite under-68kg category as well as in the team kumite event, further strengthening Sri Lanka’s presence at the championship.

The achievement underscores the Sri Lanka Navy’s continued commitment to developing high-performing athletes capable of competing at international level. Their success not only brings recognition to the Navy but also contributes to Sri Lanka’s growing reputation in regional karate competitions.
