Sri Lanka Navy Builds First Indigenous Waveless Referee Boat for Water Sports

The Sri Lanka Navy has designed and built the country’s first locally produced waveless referee boat for rowing and canoeing events at the Navy Water Sports Centre in Diyawanna, Battaramulla.
The vessel was designed and constructed by the Naval Boat Building Yard (NBBY) as a locally developed catamaran, specifically designed to minimise water disturbance during sporting events.
The boat was delivered to the Navy Water Sports Centre in April 2026 and is currently in operational use for rowing and canoeing activities.
The locally built vessel represents another application of the Sri Lanka Navy’s boat-building capabilities, while supporting the development and conduct of water sports in the country.
