Sri Lanka Makes History at International Mathematical Olympiad with First-Ever Silver Medal

Sri Lanka has achieved a historic milestone at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), with student Lasitha Jayasinghe becoming the country's first-ever silver medallist in the world's most prestigious mathematics competition.

Representing Royal International School, Kurunegala, Lasitha delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 25 out of a possible 42 points while competing against 666 of the world's brightest young mathematicians from 117 countries. His score placed him just four points shy of the gold medal threshold, making the achievement even more remarkable.

The accomplishment marks Sri Lanka's strongest performance since the country first participated in the International Mathematical Olympiad in 1995. Over the past three decades, Sri Lankan contestants have earned bronze medals and honourable mentions, but a silver medal had remained elusive until now.
