Sri Lanka likely Test squad : Dikka returns

Sri Lanka are set to make several changes for the opening Test against India, with Niroshan Dickwella likely to make his international comeback after a three-year absence from Test cricket.

The 33-year-old wicketkeeper-batter is expected to replace the injured Kusal Mendis and take the gloves for the first Test in Galle, which begins on August 15.

Dickwella’s likely return is one of several changes to the squad, with Sri Lanka also expected to bring back fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka and off-spinner Ramesh Mendis.

Uncapped off-spinner Keshara Nuwantha is another notable inclusion and is in line for his maiden Test call-up following impressive performances against India A and in the recent warm-up match.

Fast bowler Lahiru Kumara is also among those being considered, subject to fitness.

Sri Lanka will also have to reshuffle the top order with Pathum Nissanka recovering from wrist surgery. Nishan Madushka is expected to partner Lahiru Udara at the top.

The changes mean Sri Lanka are likely to head into the India series with a combination of experienced players and new faces as they look to strengthen their position in the World Test Championship. (Newswire)
