Sri Lanka Among World’s Top 5 Fastest Improvers in Investor Transparency

Sri Lanka has been ranked the fourth fastest-improving nation globally in investor relations and debt transparency, according to the 2026 assessment by the Institute of International Finance (IIF). The recognition marks a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing efforts to rebuild investor confidence and strengthen fiscal governance.

Leading the global rankings was Vietnam, followed by Belize and Mozambique, placing Sri Lanka firmly among the top performers in improving transparency standards.

Sri Lanka recorded a notable surge in its overall Investor Relations score, rising by 6.3 points from 37.33 in 2025 to 43.67 out of 50 in 2026. This improvement places the country within the top quartile among 57 emerging markets and developing economies assessed in the report.

In the area of debt transparency, Sri Lanka climbed to 5th place globally, achieving a score of 11.25 out of 13. The strong performance reflects enhanced data disclosure practices and a more structured approach to sharing fiscal information with global stakeholders. Additionally, the country scored 3.25 out of 4.0 in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) data and policy dissemination, highlighting progress in sustainable reporting standards.

Officials from the Ministry of Finance Sri Lanka credited the improvement to the establishment of a formal Investor Relations Program under the Public Debt Management Office in late 2024. Initiatives such as standardized engagement schedules, regular debt bulletins, and improved fiscal reporting mechanisms have played a key role in boosting transparency and investor trust.

The IIF emphasized that consistent and predictable transparency practices are critical in reducing borrowing uncertainty and ensuring continued access to international capital markets—particularly during periods of global economic volatility.

Sri Lanka’s rapid progress signals a positive shift in its economic management framework, reinforcing its commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainable financial recovery.
