Sri Lanka–China Friendship Celebrated at 45th Anniversary Event in Colombo

The 77th National Day celebration of the People’s Republic of China and the 45th anniversary celebration of the Sri Lanka–China Association were held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo.

Organised by the Sri Lanka–China Association, the event was held under the theme “China–Sri Lanka: A Journey of Friendship — 45 Years of Friendship Among People.”

The event was held at the invitation of Sri Lanka–China Association President Jinith de Silva. Minister of Science and Technology Krishantha Abey Sena attended as the Chief Guest.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Dr. Ruwan Ranasinghe, Director of the Chinese Cultural Centre in Sri Lanka Ni Lisheng, Secretary-General of the Amity Foundation of China Lin Chunxiang, and Lalith Hinagama, one of the founders of the Sri Lanka–China Association, were among the distinguished guests who attended the occasion.

The keynote address at the anniversary celebration was delivered by Dr. Varuna Chandrakeerthi under the theme “The Multiple Dimensions of Sri Lanka–China Friendship.”

Dr. Chathura Jayasekara also delivered a speech in Chinese on the history of the Sri Lanka–China Association.

The programme included an exchange of commemorative gifts between the Sri Lanka–China Association and the Amity Foundation.

A video presentation highlighting China’s recent development was also screened, along with a video showcasing the activities carried out by the Sri Lanka–China Association.

The event highlighted the longstanding people-to-people ties and continuing friendship between Sri Lanka and China. Sri Lanka’s official institutions have also continued to emphasise the longstanding bilateral relationship between the two countries and the importance of people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
