Sri Lanka Secures Four Bronze Medals at 58th International Chemistry Olympiad

Sri Lanka’s young chemistry talents delivered an impressive performance at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) held in Uzbekistan, bringing home four Bronze medals in a highly competitive global event.

The Olympiad saw participation from more than 360 contestants representing 96 countries, making the achievement a significant milestone for the country’s academic community.

The Bronze medal winners representing Sri Lanka were Senitha Senaratne of Ananda College, Himaru Abeygunarathne of Trinity College, Kandy, Geethilihansa Dharmarathna of Visakha Vidyalaya, and Ravindu Ranatunga of Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala.

The team was guided by mentors Dr. Upul Ranjan Kumarasinghe and Dr. Chinthaka Nadun Ratnaweera, who supported the students throughout their preparation and participation.

The students were selected and trained by the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon through the Sri Lanka National Chemistry Olympiad programme, which aims to identify and nurture outstanding talent in the field of chemistry.

This accomplishment highlights Sri Lanka’s growing presence on the international academic stage and reflects the dedication and hard work of both students and their mentors.
