· Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is strengthening its preparations for the upcoming South Asian football tournament, following a run of five consecutive victories, while the country’s ongoing Super League competition is set to reach a wider audience through a new broadcasting partnership with Dialog Pay.
An agreement to broadcast the Sri Lanka Super League matches through Dialog Pay was signed at Football House in Colombo yesterday.
Speaking at a football media briefing, Sri Lanka Football Federation President Jaswar Umar said broadcasting domestic matches would help generate greater public interest in the sport and encourage more people to follow local football.
He also confirmed that preparations for the South Asian tournament were progressing, expressing confidence in Sri Lanka’s recent performances. The national team has won its last five matches, a run he described as a significant boost ahead of the upcoming competition.
Mr Umar further stated that FIFA had allocated US$3.4 billion for football this year, adding that countries participating in the sport stood to benefit from the available support.
The media briefing was also attended by Pubudu Aluthgedara, Vice President of Media and Home Services at Dialog Axiata, representing the telecommunications company.
The broadcasting partnership is expected to help bring the Super League closer to local audiences while supporting efforts to increase the visibility and popularity of football in Sri Lanka.
