SLIC Life Offers Rs. 1 Million Free Life Insurance Cover to Parents of Children Born on World Children’s Day

Sri Lanka Insurance Life (SLIC Life) has once again offered a free life insurance cover worth Rs. 1 million to the parents of every child born across the island on October 1, 2026, in conjunction with World Children’s Day.

The programme was implemented islandwide on October 1, covering hospitals across the country, allowing parents of newborn children to receive this special benefit while highlighting the importance of life insurance and financial protection.

The initiative, which is being conducted for the fifth consecutive year, was implemented across hospitals throughout the country.

Beyond providing financial protection, the programme seeks to emphasise that the birth of a child marks the beginning of a new chapter in a family’s life, while securing the family’s financial future is also an important part of that journey.

“The birth of a child marks the beginning of a new journey filled with hopes, dreams and aspirations. At SLIC Life, we believe it is important to provide protection from the very beginning of that journey. Through this programme, our aim is to raise greater awareness of the importance of planning ahead for the future and the role life insurance can play in protecting families during unexpected circumstances in life.

“By continuing this programme for the fifth consecutive year, we remain committed to providing meaningful protection to Sri Lankan families and contributing towards building a more secure future for the next generation,” said Dr. Sameera Dharmasena, Chief Executive Officer of SLIC Life.

Launched as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of SLIC Life, the World Children’s Day programme primarily aims to strengthen the financial security of families by supporting parents at an important milestone in their children’s lives.

Over the years, the programme has become an important part of SLIC Life’s annual CSR initiatives, reflecting the company’s broader commitment towards children, families and communities.

SLIC Life also conducts several long-term programmes focused on children and their education.

The “SCHOOL PREMISES PROTECTION” programme, launched in 2007, has so far benefited more than 3,365 underprivileged schools. The programme has supported a range of initiatives, including classroom renovations, provision of water facilities, libraries and learning resources.

The 2026 phase of the programme is scheduled to be implemented in November, further advancing SLIC Life’s continued efforts to improve learning environments for children across the country.

Meanwhile, through the “Suba Pathum Scholarship Programme,” launched in 2014, a total of 2,425 scholarships have so far been awarded to children of policyholders who have demonstrated outstanding performance at national examinations. The total value of the scholarships awarded amounts to Rs. 265 million.

The programme reflects Sri Lanka Insurance Life’s continued focus on supporting the educational aspirations of the next generation and creating new opportunities for them.

Children remain at the centre of SLIC Life’s commitment to building a more secure future. Through its broad range of CSR initiatives, including its annual World Children’s Day programme, Sri Lanka Insurance Life continues to demonstrate how the value of insurance can extend beyond financial protection to contribute towards building stronger and more resilient families and communities.
