Shiranthi Rajapaksa Leaves for Singapore for Medical Treatment

Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, departed Sri Lanka for Singapore early today (16) for medical treatment, according to local media reports.

She left Bandaranaike International Airport at around 1.10 a.m. aboard Singapore Airlines flight SQ-469 bound for Singapore. Airport records also show the flight departing Colombo for Singapore around that time.

Her departure comes after she was summoned to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) on September 24 to provide a statement in connection with an ongoing financial investigation relating to the ‘Siriliya Saviya’ account.

Shiranthi Rajapaksa was reportedly admitted to a private hospital in Colombo on September 15 after falling ill and was subsequently taken to the airport for her departure.

The development comes as the FCID investigation remains ongoing, with her scheduled appearance before the authorities set for September 24.
