Second pedestrian dies after Lakemba car crash that killed beloved mother and wife

A man has died almost a month after being hit by a car, the second person to die in the incident.

The car smashed into two pedestrians, a 64-year-old man and 43-year-old mother Nurhayati Pamungkas, along The Boulevarde in Lakemba, Western Sydney, about 1pm on July 28.

Both were critically injured and rushed to hospital soon afterward, alongside the 82-year-old male driver who was taken for mandatory testing.

Despite the best efforts, Pamungkas was placed in an induced coma in intensive care, where she remained for several days before dying about 8pm on August 3.

Exactly three weeks later, police were told the 64-year-old man had also died in hospital.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash and called anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.

It comes after Pamungkas’ husband, Agung Purwanto, revealed the heartbreak of losing his wife and mother of their children.

Purwanto told 7NEWS the last message he received from his wife was a text saying she was going to buy groceries and vegetables for dinner.

She had planned to cook for their 13-year-old son and seven-year-old daughter that evening.

Instead, about 3.30pm, Purwanto received a call from his daughter’s school to say no one had arrived to pick her up.

He immediately jumped in an Uber to collect his daughter before receiving another phone call telling him his wife had been taken to hospital.

He described the days that followed at her bedside as a nightmare.

Pamungkas died surrounded by her family.

Her employer, Bellavita Cafe owner Rashed Sikder, remembered her as the “top of the top” and said she never let him down.

“She is like my sister, honestly,” he said.

“Everything in my shop I got, it’s her touch.

“She did everything perfect for me and I used to have one day off just because of her. And when she went back to Indonesia, I was struggling.”
