Sarvajana Balaya Raises Concerns Over Tribute to Former LTTE Member Thileepan

“We saw a statue of Thileepan being erected and people paying tribute to it. Thileepan was a member of the LTTE. Regardless of that, there can be no greater insult to this country than allowing tribute to be paid to a person associated with a terrorist organisation.

This is an attempt to bring back an extremist organisation that was built around an ideology to the extent that its members were prepared to kill and die. We saw people from the South travelling to Nagadeepa to worship being called racist. But not a single word has been said against these people.

What they are trying to do through these new amendments is to give people in the diaspora living overseas an opportunity to vote. If they were allowed to vote in a presidential election in Sri Lanka, they would have around seven percent of the votes.”
