Sajith calls for urgent plan to tackle climate disasters

It is a timely necessity to formulate a plan capable of effectively responding to even the most severe weather and climate-related disasters that could affect the country, according to leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa.

Premadasa underscored that recurring flash floods, landslides, and prolonged droughts have severely battered Sri Lanka's agricultural sector and displaced thousands of vulnerable families across several provinces.

He advocated for the integration of modern meteorological technology, community-level early warning mechanisms, and sustainable infrastructure developments to cushion rural communities against environmental shocks.

The Opposition Leader also urged the government to allocate dedicated budgetary resources and engage international climate adaptation funds to finance comprehensive disaster-preparedness frameworks.
