Rs. 70 Diesel Subsidy to Be Paid Per Litre Sold, Says Energy Minister

Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka said the Government is providing a Rs. 70 subsidy for every litre of diesel sold.

He said the subsidy is calculated based on the volume of fuel sold by each company.

However, the companies have stated that the subsidy they receive is not sufficient to cover their losses. As a result, they may continue to impose restrictions on fuel sales in the future, the Minister said.

He added that the Government, through the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), will continue to provide fuel services to all consumers.

The Government's decision to provide a Rs. 70-per-litre diesel subsidy has also been reported in connection with the latest fuel-price revision. The Energy Minister has said the Government is seeking to prevent the full impact of rising international fuel prices from being passed on to consumers.
