Rs. 40 million in bail money furnished by Aravinda de Silva and wife forfeited
· Sri Lanka
Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara ordered the forfeiture of Rs. 40 million in bail money provided by former Sri Lankan cricketer Aravinda de Silva and his spouse [1.1]. The sum had been placed as security during earlier court sessions concerning financial wrongdoing investigations.
The bail guarantee was posted for Priyanka Niyomali Wijenayake, whose husband, former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Kapila Chandrasena, is implicated in legal proceedings regarding corporate financial transactions. The court observed that the suspect had continuously failed to present herself for scheduled hearings.
Given the prolonged absence of the accused, the magistrate ruled that the terms of the surety had been breached and directed that the full bail amount be forfeited to state revenue in accordance with criminal procedure regulations.
