Rising Aussie golf star Jessica Bang fighting for life after brain haemorrhage

There are serious fears for rising Australian golf star Jessica Bang who has had brain surgery and is now on life support in a hospital in Thailand.

The 18-year-old suffered “a devastating brain haemorrhage” ahead of a tournament in Bangkok and is now fighting for her life.

“On the 1st of August 2026 Jessica suddenly collapsed and was transported to Synphat Ramintra Hospital in Bangkok where she underwent emergency brain surgery,” the GoFundMe said.

“She is currently on life support in the ICU and we are trying to raise funds to transport her back home. Her family is wanting to take her back home to be surrounded by her loved ones and community as she navigates recovery.”

Bang’s uncle, Jacob Kang, has also asked for support to help the family.

“I’m sharing this GoFundMe page for my sister’s daughter, who is only 18,” he said on Facebook.

“She travelled to Thailand recently to compete in a golf tournament and, tragically, suffered a severe brain haemorrhage.

“When she turned 18, she chose Australian citizenship, which unfortunately made her Korean residency/status and travel insurance situation quite complicated.

“As a result, her medical treatment and related expenses are becoming a huge financial burden for the family.

“If you’re able to donate or even just share the GoFundMe page, it would mean so much to her family during this incredibly difficult time.

“Thank you so much for your support.”

Bang is affectionately known as ‘Rookie Bang’.

At the start of this year, with her mother as her caddie, she won the Ford NSW Regional Championship in Moss Vale, NSW.

In the final round of that tournament she blasted an 8-under par 65, setting a new course record. The round included a whopping eight birdies and a sensational eagle.

She only turned pro in November in 2025 and that was her first victory on the professional circuit. 

“I’m so happy, I can’t even put it into words,” she later said.

“It still doesn’t feel real yet. I did not expect this at all — big surprise.”

At the time of writing, the GoFundMe had raised just a tick over $24,000.
