Rescue efforts continue as death toll crosses 1,050 in Nepal-Tibet floods

Yesterday, Nepal announced that 1,050 bodies had been recovered by Tuesday, bringing the total death toll to 1,066.

The devastating glacial floods last week were caused by a high-altitude glacial collapse sent a massive wave of freezing water, rocks and debris down the Himalayas, destroying entire settlements and leaving widespread devastation across Nepal.

Rescue efforts continue a week on, with teams searching for survivors. Around 100 hydropower workers believed to be trapped inside tunnels.

Meanwhile, after days of searching shelters and morgues, AFP reported that many Nepali families held symbolic funeral ceremonies on Tuesday to "liberate the souls" of loved ones missing since the deadly flash floods last week.
