Renewable Energy Development Front Opposes Solar Power Restrictions, Hands Memorandum to President
· Sri Lanka
The Renewable Energy Development Front today handed over a memorandum to the President’s Secretariat, opposing measures that it says could obstruct payments to the renewable energy sector and undermine Sri Lanka’s solar power industry.
The organisation claimed that electricity consumers are already bearing the impact of what it described as a “diesel and coal mafia,” and warned that the solar energy industry could also become a victim of interests seeking to undermine the country’s renewable energy sector.
The memorandum was submitted this afternoon as part of the organisation’s campaign against measures it says could disrupt payments related to renewable energy and damage the solar power industry.
Speaking to the media, Chairman of the Renewable Energy Development Front, Ruwan Chamara, expressed the organisation’s concerns regarding the current situation.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Renewable Energy Development Front, Sajith Jayawardena, alleged that a group of corrupt officials had misled the government, including the President, on matters relating to the renewable energy sector.
The organisation called on the government to take action to protect the renewable energy industry and ensure the continued development of solar power in Sri Lanka.
