Sri Lanka’s Ambassador Rekha Gunasekera Elected Chairperson of CFC Executive Board

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Rekha Gunasekera, has been elected by acclamation as the Chairperson of the Executive Board of the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC).
The election took place at the CFC’s 82nd Meeting, held in Amsterdam on September 16, 2026. Ambassador Gunasekera also serves as Sri Lanka’s Executive Director to the CFC.
Addressing the meeting, she said the CFC had become increasingly partnership-oriented and investment-ready, positioning it to respond to the evolving challenges faced by commodity-dependent developing countries.
She highlighted commodity transformation, enterprise development and investment mobilisation as key priorities for countries seeking to strengthen economic resilience, diversify their products and support sustainable and inclusive growth.
Ambassador Gunasekera also reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to promoting inclusive growth, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, strengthening value addition and advancing economic diversification.
Sri Lanka expressed appreciation for the CFC’s longstanding partnership and investments in the commodities sector and welcomed further cooperation towards sustainable, inclusive and resilient growth.
The CFC Executive Board is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Fund and reports to its Governing Council. The CFC is an autonomous intergovernmental financial institution established within the United Nations framework, with 101 Member States, including Sri Lanka, and is headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
