Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 breaks all Tamil cinema records

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth has created history once again, with his latest film Jailer 2 becoming the first Tamil movie to cross the Indian Rs. 800 crore (approximately US$96 million) mark at the worldwide box office.

The film has collected an estimated Indian Rs. 807.25 crore globally within just 18 days of its theatrical release, setting a new record for Tamil cinema, according to box-office tracker Sacnilk.

The action thriller has earned Indian Rs. 533.75 crore in domestic gross collections, while overseas markets have contributed another Rs. 273.50 crore.

With this achievement, Rajinikanth has broken his own previous box-office record held by the 2018 blockbuster 2.0, becoming the star of the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer 2 is the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer, with Rajinikanth returning as retired jailer Muthuvel Pandian.

The film also features Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan and several other prominent stars.

Jailer 2 has also emerged as the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2026, further strengthening Rajinikanth’s extraordinary box-office legacy.
