Queensland man allegedly stabbed to death after being locked out of his own home

Confronting new details have emerged after a man died when he opened his home to two people and was allegedly stabbed to death.

Queensland police were called to a home on Lubach St in Beenleigh, south of Brisbane, at 4.45pm on Tuesday.

When officers arrived they found a 66-year-old man in a critical condition with multiple stab wounds.

Neighbours and officers performed CPR, but he could not be saved and was declared dead at the scene.

A 47-year-old Karalee man was treated for a minor arm wound and taken to Logan Hospital alongside an uninjured 43-year-old Beenleigh woman.

They have both since been charged with one count each of murder.

On Wednesday, Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said the “well liked and respected” victim had opened his home to his two alleged murderers.

He said they came to the homeowner’s house in need of temporary accommodation about four months ago.

The victim agreed to help them out, but when he recently asked them to leave, they allegedly refused.

Then on Tuesday afternoon, the man came home from work to find himself locked out of his house.

Galpin said he forced entry into the house and was allegedly assaulted by the man and woman once he entered.

A neighbour heard the commotion and ran to the scene where he disarmed the woman, who allegedly attempted to slash him with the knife, before rendering first aid to the victim.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge (the neighbour’s) actions and the support that he provided to this man at this time,” Galpin said.

Police arrived a short time later.

“Police did an amazing job in trying to save this man’s life with the help of the Queensland Ambulance Service,” Galpin said.

“It’s a close knit community...(They’ve) really felt the loss of a really well liked and respected neighbour.”

Friends of the victim told 7NEWS he had lived in the area for decades and had been battling prostate cancer at the time when he was killed.

He had also been in the middle of planning a trip with his beloved pet dog.

The 43-year-old Beenleigh woman was further charged with acts intended to maim/disfigure/disable — after attempting to injure the neighbour who ran to help— and with contravention of domestic violence order in regards to her co-accused with whom she was previously in a relationship.

Both the man and woman are set to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
