Public invited to name baby Hippo at Dehiwala Zoo

Animal lovers have been given a chance to leave their mark at the National Zoological Gardens in Dehiwala, with the launch of a public initiative to name a newborn Nile hippopotamus.

The zoo announced that suggestions can be submitted through a designated online form, encouraging visitors and wildlife enthusiasts to propose suitable names for the calf.

Organizers say the program is designed to foster public engagement and highlight the bond between the zoo and its community of animal lovers.

However, only children under the age of 12 are eligible to take part in the naming competition.

Participants are required to fill in the necessary details via the official form, which is now open for submissions.
