Prison uniforms mandatory for those serving sentences exceeding three years
· Sri Lanka
Individuals serving prison sentences exceeding three years will now be strictly required to appear before judicial courts wearing official prison uniforms issued by the Department of Prisons. Prison Media Spokesperson Commissioner of Prisons Senaka Palletenna announced the enforcement of the rule across correctional facilities.
The directive aims to standardize prisoner appearance protocol and enforce existing provisions stipulated in the Prisons Ordinance. Department officials noted that adhering to the uniform policy eliminates ambiguities and ensures strict adherence to established administrative procedures during judicial proceedings.
The enforcement comes amidst broader institutional discussions regarding prison discipline and procedural uniformity for incarcerated high-profile and regular convicts alike. Prison superintendents across the island have been instructed to ensure strict compliance without exception.
