Prison authorities ordered to ensure Gnanasara Thero's safety

The Colombo Additional Magistrate remanded Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) organization, until tomorrow following his apprehension by law enforcement authorities. The arrest was executed on the basis of an open warrant that had been issued against him by the Court of Appeal.

During the court proceedings, legal counsel representing the monk raised concerns regarding his physical safety while detained, urging the magistrate to instruct prison administrators to provide appropriate security. After considering the submissions, the magistrate issued explicit directives to prison officials to implement all necessary security protocols.

Gnanasara Thero is expected to be produced before the Court of Appeal on the next scheduled court date. Prison authorities have confirmed that standard security routines and supervision are being maintained in accordance with the court's specific order.
