President’s Secretary calls for urgent relief on PAYE tax burden

Secretary to the President, Nandika Sanath Kumanayake has stressed the need for immediate measures to ease the heavy Pay‑As‑You‑Earn (PAYE) tax burden weighing on the public, warning that the prevailing situation requires swift correction.
Addressing the 21st Annual General Conference of the Association of Inland Revenue Commissioners in Colombo, Kumanayake underscored that urgent reforms are essential to provide relief to taxpayers.
He further highlighted the importance of strengthening Sri Lanka’s Inland Revenue Department to meet standards comparable with those of developed nations.
The conference brought together senior officials, including Deputy Minister of Economic Development Nishantha Jayaweera and Inland Revenue Commissioner General R.P.H. Fernando, alongside Kumanayake. (Newswire)
