Polonnaruwa Railway Station Reopens Under ‘Dream Destination’ Programme

The renovated Polonnaruwa Railway Station has reopened under the ‘Dream Destination’ programme, a nationwide initiative aimed at modernising 100 railway stations across Sri Lanka.

The renovation is part of efforts to improve passenger facilities and upgrade railway infrastructure at key locations across the country.

Meanwhile, construction has commenced on a new double-track railway bridge at Maggona at a cost of Rs. 401 million. The project is expected to strengthen railway infrastructure along the coastal line and support safer and more efficient train operations.

Authorities have also planned the rehabilitation of 12 additional railway bridges along the coastal railway line within the next year, as part of the broader programme to improve the country’s railway network.

The projects form part of ongoing efforts to modernise railway facilities and improve the travel experience for passengers while strengthening essential railway infrastructure across Sri Lanka.
