Piumi Hansamali Denies Financial Links to Alleged Drug Trafficker
· Sri Lanka
Popular model Piumi Hansamali has denied claims circulating on social media alleging that she had financial dealings or other links with alleged major drug trafficker Shiran Bashik.
In a statement shared on her Facebook account, Hansamali said she had never known Bashik and had no association with him.
She also rejected claims that she was holding money belonging to drug traffickers or other individuals, stating that the money in her possession had been earned by her.
Hansamali further said that several false claims about her were being circulated on social media and maintained that she had not made any false statements regarding the matter.
Bashik, who is alleged by authorities to be a large-scale drug trafficker, was brought back to Sri Lanka on August 14 following his arrest in Dubai.
He was arrested by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department’s Airport Unit after arriving at Bandaranaike International Airport.
Following preliminary questioning by the CID, Bashik was handed over to the Central Crime Investigation Bureau for further investigations.
The Bureau has since obtained permission to detain and question him for 90 days as investigations continue.
