Panduka Jayalath Sets World Record and Wins Gold for Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan strength athlete Panduka Jayalath has achieved a historic feat on the international stage, winning gold and setting a new world record at the 13th World Strengthlifting Championship in Kyrgyzstan.

Competing in the 115kg weight category, Jayalath secured the gold medal in the Strengthlifting event, placing Sri Lanka among the championship’s world medalists.

Adding to his remarkable achievement, Jayalath set a new world record in the Hack Lift, successfully lifting an impressive 282.5kg. He also secured a bronze medal in the Incline Bench Press event.

The achievement comes after a journey marked by intense dedication, hard work, challenges and sacrifices. Despite uncertainties along the way, Jayalath delivered a standout performance to represent Sri Lanka with distinction on the global stage.

His world-record-breaking performance and two international medals mark a proud moment for Sri Lankan strength sports and add another remarkable achievement to the country’s growing presence in international competition.
