Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa Meets Family of Sri Lankan Sentenced to Death in Saudi Arabia

Anojans’s father, Thambirajah Sivaratnam, his mother, Rasamanickyam Yogalakshmi, his brother, Sivaratnam Hamsithan, and other relatives were among those who attended the meeting.

During the discussion, Sajith Premadasa contacted Ameer Ajwad, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, by telephone and discussed possible steps that could be taken as a country regarding Anojan’s release.

In addition, Premadasa spoke by telephone with Sivaratnam Anojan, who is currently being held in a Saudi prison, to inquire about his condition. He subsequently contacted Aruni Ranaraja, Secretary to Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to inquire about the relevant legal situation and the steps currently being taken by the government to secure Anojan’s release.

Premadasa assured the family that he would do everything possible to secure the release of Sivaratnam Anojan, a Sri Lankan who had worked abroad and contributed his labour in support of his country. He further assured them that he would continue to draw the attention of the relevant authorities to the matter and provide his continued support towards securing Anojan’s release.
