Nearly 400 Tourists Reported Missing After Flash Floods Hit Nepal

At least 384 tourists and travellers have been reported missing after a sudden flash flood in Nepal’s Bhote Koshi River struck the Rasuwa region on Wednesday, according to a preliminary update from the Nepal Tourism Board.

The missing include 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepali citizens. Among the foreign travellers are 105 Indians, along with nationals from countries including the United Kingdom, United States, Malaysia, Australia, South Africa and the Netherlands.

The flash flood caused widespread destruction in parts of Rasuwa, damaging roads, bridges, homes and infrastructure along the Bhote Koshi River. The disaster has also resulted in multiple deaths, with rescue teams continuing to search affected areas.

The Nepal Tourism Board said the figure of 384 missing travellers is preliminary and subject to verification. Authorities are coordinating with travel agencies, guides, local administrations and security agencies to establish the whereabouts and safety of those listed.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to reach affected communities and account for those still uncontactable.
