Nearly 3 Decades in Hospitality: Dushyantha Tittawella shares his Journey in New Book

Dushyantha B. Tittawella, General Manager of Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, has launched his book, Mastering the Art of Hospitality, sharing insights and lessons from nearly three decades in the hospitality industry.

The book, published by M.D. Gunasena, was launched recently at the Imperial Court, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo.

Drawing on his professional journey in Sri Lanka and overseas, Tittawella reflects on the experiences, challenges and people who have shaped his career.

“Some books are written from knowledge. Some are written from research. And some are written from a lifetime of experiences. Mastering the Art of Hospitality is my story,” he said.

Tittawella said writing the book became more than an exercise in documenting his professional experiences, allowing him to revisit the people, places and opportunities that influenced his life.

Throughout his career, he has worked with people from different cultures and backgrounds, many of whom became mentors, colleagues and lifelong friends.

The book also explores the challenges he encountered, including professional setbacks, uncertainty and moments when he had to rebuild his confidence.

A central message of the book is directed at young people entering the hospitality industry, encouraging them to embrace challenges, learn from mistakes and remain committed to personal and professional growth.

Tittawella hopes his experiences will help aspiring hospitality professionals understand that hospitality extends beyond service standards and business operations.

Through Mastering the Art of Hospitality, he highlights the importance of human connections, resilience and the experiences created for others.
